What is Chatter?

“Chatter” is simply whatever comes to mind that I’d like to share with you.

It could be just writing about art in general. It could be writing about something new and exciting upcoming at the gallery or maybe just reminiscing about a special artist. Or, it could be sharing the news about the latest awards, projects or accomplishments of the gallery artists. Who knows!

I hope this column will be interesting and informative for our website visitors. Your comments and ideas are always welcome.

Watercolor USA is a nationally known, annual juried exhibition recognizing  aqueous media painting.  Organized in 1962 by the Springfield Art Museum, it features some of the country's most  accomplished artists and respected jurors. Entries are submitted from artists representing all 50 states and the U.S. territories.  Nearly $40,000 in cash, merchandise, patron and museum purchase awards are given.

The 50th anniversary of Watercolor USA is open from June 11th through August 7th at the Springfield Art Museum, 1111 E. Brookside Drive, Springfield, Missouri.

Marlin Rotach was born in Salina, Kansas.  He earned a B.F.A. in painting from Kansas State University and an M.F.A from the University of Nebraska. He also taught design, drawing and painting at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Since the mid 1990's Marlin has worked almost exclusively in watercolors, doing paintings for both galleries and private commissions.  He has received dozens of awards for his work at major competitions across the country. In 2004, International Artist Magazine named him as a Master Painter of the World.

Marlin's signature memberships* include:  (NWS) National Watercolor Society, (WHS) Watercolor USA (Honor Society), (RMNW) Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, (NWWS) Northwest Watercolor Society, (CWA) California Watercolor Society, (KWS) Kansas Watercolor Society, (MOWS) Missouri Watercolor Society (Honor Roll).  *Signature Membership for artists means those artists who have qualified to use a set of letters after their surname designating them as a full member of the art society.  The process and honor of becoming a signature member is defined by a set of criteria unique to each society.

American Legacy Gallery is pleased to acknowledge the most recent accomplishment for our long-time staff member, Marlin Rotach.  Clients across the region rely on him to provide top quality archival custom framing and frame design for their artwork. A true artist in every respect!
